Collocations

 

 Collocation به معنایی "همایی" است  و منظور این است که دو یا چند واژه  بیشتر اوقات کنار هم به کار می روند. به عنوان نمونه، واژه "مرگ" چندین واژه همعنا فارسی و عربی دارد همچون وفات، درگذشت، ارتحال، رحلت، موت، فنا ، فوت  و یا عروج. اما هنگامی که کمبود وقت داریم تنها واژه ای که به همرا ه "وقت" می آید واژه "فوت" است و می گوئیم: بدون فوت وقت. بنابراین می گوئیم فوت و وقت با یکدیگر همآیی دارند.

در زبان انگلیسی نیز همایی وجود دارد و بسیار رایج است به این معنا که اگر کسی این همآیی ها را درست به کار بگیرد درواقع به صورت روان و سلیس از زبان استفاده کرده است. به عنوان نمونه واژه های say و tell مترادف هستند اما در جایی این به کار می رود و در جای دیگر آن:

say hello, say something, say one's prayers.....

tell a story, tell the truth, tell your name......
